Puigemont puts forward conditions for talks to form a government in Spain with Pedro Sanchez

Former Catalan government leader Carles Puigdemont said on Tuesday that in order to negotiate a new government in Spain, cases against Catalan separatists must be dropped, Reuters reported.

Puigdemont is also demanding that Catalan be recognized as an official language in European Union institutions, the exile said in Brussels, where he is an MEP for the Junts Per Catalunya (Together for Catalonia) party.

The party’s seven votes are decisive for Pedro Sanchez, leader of the Spanish Socialist Party, in forming a government. The conservative People’s Party, led by Alberto Nunez Feijoo, won the elections on 23 July.

“Be prepared for elections as well as negotiations that could end in a historic agreement,” Puigdemont said.

If the Catalans do not support Sanges, the most predictable result will be a repeat election.
