Germany and the United Kingdom describe Putin’s announcement as “serious and worrying” and China calls for a ceasefire

The mobilization announced by Putin this Tuesday of a partial mobilization, of some 300,000 reservists, to go to the war in Ukraine, is generating concern among world leaders.

The British Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Gillian Keeganhas been the first voice to react to the Russian President Vladimir Putin’s announcementof a partial mobilization, of some 300,000 reservists, to go to the war in Ukraine.

In a statement to the chain SkyNewsKeegan has pointed out that Putin’s speech is is “worryingand although he has asked for calm, he has pointed out that it must be taken “seriously“. This is “obviously an escalation and, of course, now the Russian people will be recruited for this war” in Ukraine, the Secretary of State stressed.

However, Keegan has insisted that the UK will help the Ukrainian people “as much as we can”. In fact, the British government announced on Tuesday that it is committed to matching the military aid provided to Ukraine this year in 2023, estimated at 2.3 billion pounds (2.622 billion euros), and to supporting Ukraine’s security and territorial integrity.

The German Minister of Economy, Robert Habeckfor his part, has described Putin’s announcement as passing “serious and wrong“. At a press conference to announce that the German Government will take over 99% of the shares of the gas company Uniper.

Habeck, who is also Minister of Economy, has indicated that the German Government is deliberating its response to Putin’s decision and has reiterated Berlin’s support for kyiv in the face of the Russian invasion, as reported by the German newspaper ‘Der Spiegel’ .
