Italian actress Sophia Loren, 89, underwent surgery on Sunday for a fractured hip after falling at the house where she lives in Geneva, Switzerland, and will have to remain in hospital for several days.
“Her two sons, Edoardo and Carlo, live with the actress,” says a statement from the Sofia Loren Restaurant company, owned by the Italian actress.
“Fortunately, (the operation) went well,” the same note, published this Monday, said that the operation took place at a hospital in Geneva.
Sophia Loren, who turned 89 on September 20, was planning to go to Bari in southern Italy on a business trip.
In September, Sophia Loren took part in an event in Venice, and in June she was the main character of the centenary celebrations of the opera festival in Verona, Italy, in early September.
Lauren, who won, among other awards, an Oscar for Best Actress in 1962 for the film Ciociara, was the main character in the 2020 film La Vie Davanti, shot in Bari, directed by her son Edoardo Ponti.
