The 16-year-old who stabbed his stepfather to death in Seixal was sentenced this Friday to seven years in prison. Vicelmo Santana was charged with simple murder, aggravated use of a knife and possession of a prohibited weapon.
The defense justified the crime, saying Vicelmo acted in self-defense because the young man lived in a troubled family with domestic violence and alcoholism.
The minor was the victim of frequent attacks by his mother’s boyfriend. The mother even said that her partner “put out the cigarette butts” in her son’s arms.
Reading out the decision, the judge emphasized that the sentence imposed on the young man was the lowest in his entire career for murder.
The crime occurred in October last year.
