Around 3,000 homes around Amsterdam Schiphol Airport will receive compensation for noise pollution caused by the airport between 2017 and 2019, NOS reported on October 2.
According to the Ministry of Infrastructure, the Environment and Transport Inspectorate failed to enforce noise pollution standards between 2017 and 2019, as new regulations with stricter noise standards were to be implemented.
Local residents took the matter to court in 2020 and an independent committee ultimately ruled they were entitled to compensation. We are talking about addresses where noise standards were exceeded during this period.
When the ministry first announced the compensation in April, it estimated that around 4,600 households would be eligible to receive it. But in the end 1,600 people did not apply, the ministry informed NOS.
Most compensation amounts range between 50 euros (5.2 thousand rubles) and 2,200 euros (230 thousand rubles), the ministry reported. For this, the Ministry has reserved 5.5 million euros (570 million rubles) and will pay them at the end of October or beginning of November.
