Alikhanov proposed creating a fishing center for the country in Kaliningrad

The fishing port of Kaliningrad could become the fishing and fishing center of the country, said the governor of the Kaliningrad region, Anton Alikhanov, in an interview published on October 6 by the Interfax agency.

Alikhanov responded to a question about the future of the Kaliningrad fishing port, which is currently “practically inactive”.

“As for the fishing port of Kaliningrad, lately it has been slowly disappearing”“, admitted the governor.

He explained that until recently fishermen mainly used foreign ports to unload their products. Maintenance and repair of the ships were also carried out there.

Thus, the main base of the Russian fleet, which fishes in the Atlantic Ocean, was actually located on the Forer Islands. However, this territory was added to the sanctions against Russia.

“Under these conditions, the ice-free port of Kaliningrad becomes a natural beneficiary”Alikhanov said, explaining that he could collect all the fish caught by Russian companies in various areas of the Atlantic.

This, he said, could be helped by floating bases similar to those that were built in the USSR, but were later cut up for scrap metal. This fact, according to the governor, was a good lesson.

The governor will discuss the port problem with Rosrybolovstvo and the Ministry of Agriculture and then present these proposals to the country’s government.
