The European Commission announced on Thursday that it will investigate whether social network X complies with European digital services legislation after receiving “indications” of “alleged distribution of illegal content.”
We are talking about “dissemination of terrorist and violent content and incitement to hatred.”
On the same social network, European Commissioner for the Internal Market Thierry Breton wrote: “The Digital Services Act [DSA, na sigla em Inglês] here to protect both our freedom of expression and our democracy, including in times of crisis. We have submitted a formal request for information to X as the first step in our investigation to determine whether they comply with DSA requirements.”
According to the statement, the EU executive has indicated that it is reviewing X’s policies and practices regarding illegal content warnings, complaint handling, risk assessments and measures to mitigate identified risks.
The Commission sent X a “formal request for information under the Digital Services Act.”
The social media conglomerate, run by Elon Musk, has until October 18 to respond to the functioning of its crisis response protocol, and until October 31 to respond to other questions raised by Brussels.
