The country is leaving the Draghi era behind, and if the forecasts of the polls are fulfilled, it will open a new era dominated by the conservative parties, with the extreme right of Giorgia Meloni at the helm.
Italy go to the polls this Sunday to renew Parliament, in early elections that will end technocrat Mario Draghi’s time as prime minister.
Almost 51 million Italians They are called to vote tomorrow in an election day that will begin at 07:00 a.m. and end at 11:00 p.m.
In these elections, 600 parliamentarians (400 deputies and 200 senators) will be elected compared to the current 945 (630 and 315) after a reform approved in a referendum.
If the forecasts of the polls are fulfilled, right-wing parties will get the most voteswith the far-right Giorgia Meloni at the helm.
Meloni heads the Brothers of Italy party, and stays true to messages against immigration or in favor of the traditional family.
Matteo Salvinileader of the far-right political party Liga, is the second great protagonist of the right-wing alliance and aspires to enter the Government again, as he did in a previous stage in which he served as Minister of the Interior and showed off his doctrine of “closed ports” for migrants trying to reach Italian shores.
The third party in this right-wing alliance is Berlusconiwho at the head of Forza Italia, apparently immune to scandals ranging in recent years from economic crimes to potential abuses in their controversial parties.
The left-wing front, on the other hand, is made up of the parties Green Europe, Italian Left and Civic Engagement. Former Prime Minister Enrico Letta tried to unite leftist forces around the Democratic Party (PD), but the initiative was not carried forward, after failing to reach an agreement between the parties. This last party aspires to exceed 20 percent of the votes, but it could not be enough to have government options.
Behind are the 5 Star Movement (M5S)led by former Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte and who already made it clear from the beginning that he would go it alone.
