The Chinese government has omitted this Saturday any criticism of Russia in the speech of its foreign minister, Wang Yibefore the UN General Assembly, maintaining the equidistance that it has displayed since the beginning of the Russian invasion of its neighboring country.

The Ukrainian question barely made up two sentences in Wang’s speech, who repeated the ideas expressed over and over again from Beijing: “We support all efforts for a peaceful resolution of the crisis in Ukraine. Our priority is facilitate peace talksand the solution lies in addressing the legitimate concerns of all parties.”

In other words, it has not made any mention of the latest elements that have aggravated this crisis, such as the call for annexation referendums of Ukrainian territories to Russia nor the mobilization of 300,000 Russian reservists to serve in the war, thus denying those who in recent days have wanted to see a greater distance between Beijing and Moscow.

Yes, there has been room for allusions to the United States, bringing up the issue of Taiwan, “an inseparable part of China.” “We must resolutely fight separatist activities, opposing foreign interference,” Wang said.

Beijing and Washington recently collided over the visit to Taiwan of the speaker of the House of RepresentativesNancy Pelosi, who was followed by a series of Chinese military maneuvers in the Taiwan Strait that lasted for much of August.

For the rest, China has condemned as every year the US embargo on Cuba and has renewed its call for a two-state solution in the Middle East.
