The IL President announced today that the party will propose the establishment of a commission of inquiry into Efacec and called on the PS to make the proposal viable.
In an interview with TSF and Diário de Notícias, Rui Rocha explained the decision of this party, believing that “the Portuguese must be enlightened” in this matter.
The IL leader called on the PS, which has an absolute majority in parliament, to make the commission of inquiry viable, but left the SDP’s request in case the Socialists voted against it.
“I also challenge the SDP because the SDP, unlike the Liberal Initiative, has an opportunity after moving forward with a potential commission of inquiry. “I therefore call on the PSD to vote for this request of the Liberal Initiative and, if the PS fails, to not shy away from this issue and to use the means at your disposal to educate the Portuguese,” he said.
The economy minister said on Wednesday that the state would invest a further 160 million euros in Efacec, but stressed that it was a “happy day” to complete the sale of the company to the German fund Mutares.
At a press conference at the Ministry of Economy, António Costa e Silva said that a deal had been signed on Tuesday to sell Efacec to Mutares, and that the latter would invest 15 million euros in capital and 60 million euros in guarantees.
Costa e Silva emphasized the importance of Efacec as a “great technology company” for the Portuguese economy, mentioning several projects in which it is involved, adding that its fall would be “a disaster for the Portuguese economy.”
