The President of the Supreme Court of Cape Verde (STJ), Benfeito Mosso Ramos, said this Friday that a salary adjustment in the sector is “absolutely urgent”, especially for judges whose salaries have not been updated for about 26 years.
In a speech in Praia to officially open the legal year, the STJ president asked for “special attention” to be given to the status of awards in a sector that has been worsened by low income levels, especially legal costs.
“I think that an adjustment in the salaries of justice employees, especially judges, who, it’s hard to believe, have not seen their salaries updated for about 26 years, almost their entire professional lives, without knowing about any salary increases, is absolutely urgent,” – he complained. Answering a question at the end of the ceremony, Justice Minister Joana Rosa stated that she recognizes the problem of lack of salary increases in the sector, which has continued since 1997, ensuring that a new statute for judges will be adopted soon. will be submitted to parliament.

As for judicial officials, the minister noted that changes are also being made to their charters.
