Sanchez will become prime minister in exchange for amnesty

The PSOE and Junts reached an agreement early on Thursday to appoint Pedro Sánchez as prime minister in exchange for an extended amnesty for everyone involved in the Catalan independence process. The investment debate will continue next week.

The agreement was signed this Thursday morning in Brussels by the “number 3” of the Spanish Socialists, Santos Cerdan, and the independence leader, Jordi Turullo, and includes, in addition to an extended amnesty, for everyone who participated in the independence process from 2012 to the present. the appointment of an “international verifier” to oversee compliance with the agreement and the opening later this month of a “negotiating table” for a referendum on Catalan self-determination.

Puigdemont thus achieved everything he demanded from the Socialists in exchange for his party’s seven votes to make Sánchez prime minister, all without abandoning further unilateral actions in the future. “We do not admit any crimes and do not ask for forgiveness,” the independence leader boasted, assuring Sánchez that “he will have to achieve the stability of the government day by day.” “Without implementing what was agreed upon, this legislature will end up on the dustbin of history,” he warned.

FEIJO “WE DON’T GIVE UP”

PP leader Alberto Nunez Feijoo accused the Socialists of “violating the equality of all Spaniards before the law” and humiliating the judiciary. “Spain is losing, the independence supporters are winning and the PSOE is disappearing,” he said, calling for “calm and anger-free” protests. “We will not give up,” he promised.

ABASCAL “SPAIN LIVES IN DARK PERIODS”

Santiago Abascal, leader of Vox, called for a “forceful” mobilization of Spaniards against the agreement, which he said would usher in a “dark period.” “This will only end with the dictator in the dock or those who oppose him in prison,” he threatened.
