The European Union believes that leaks in gas pipelines Nord Stream 1 and 2, linking Russia and Central Europe via the Baltic, are due to “deliberate acts”and has warned that it will respond in a “united and solid” way if its theory is proven.
In a joint statement, the EU states have shown their concern about the incident, and consider it to be an act of sabotage. In the statement, it ensures that all available information “indicates that the leaks are the result of a deliberate act” and, therefore, is committed to any investigation that sheds light on what happened.
“Any deliberate disruption of the European energy infrastructure is absolutely unacceptable and will have a solid and united response“, he has warned. He adds that security and environmental concerns are of “top priority”, and these incidents “are not a coincidence” and affect all Europeans.
The Danish authorities detected a gas leak in one of the sections, in Bornholm. Hours later, the underwater gas pipeline detected a drop in pressure that affects the two lines of the pipeline.
Denmark believes that “it is difficult to imagine” that the gas leaks “are accidental”, a theory that Poland also joined. Russia does not rule out any option. In this sense, seismologists from Sweden have confirmed explosions in the area hours before.
