Estonia is alarmed by insufficient electricity production

The need to supply the country with self-produced electricity was expressed by Estonian MEP Riho Terras; On November 20, the politician’s opinion article was published in Postimees.

“In light of the damage that occurred to the Baltic connector in October, any reasonable person could ask what would happen if the power cables suffered the same damage. “Good relations with neighboring countries are undoubtedly of great importance and help reduce risks, but they cannot completely replace national electricity production.”writes Terrace.

The former commander of the Estonian army also criticizes the dependence on Russian supplies and the “green turn.” The politician also expresses his doubts that current electricity providers will not take care of their own population first in the event of a crisis, as already happened at the height of the coronavirus panic a couple of years ago.

To solve the problem, Terrace calls for a concrete solution to be adopted as soon as possible. The deputy calls this the restoration of shale energy or the urgent development of an alternative energy project.

Recall that the Estonian authorities refused to buy electricity for political reasons. At the same time, their own shale power plants are being closed because they do not meet the requirements of the “green shift.” As a result, the exchange price of electricity in the republic is subject to sharp increases depending on supply from abroad, as well as weather conditions that affect the production of “green” electricity.
