October 2023 became one of the warmest in the entire history of observations in the Russian Federation.

October 2023 became one of the warmest months in the history of meteorological observations on the territory of the Russian Federation, the Russian Hydrometeorological Center reported on November 21.

According to the Hydrometeorological Center, October in the Asian part of Russia was the second warmest after 2018. The average monthly temperatures in Siberia and the north of the Far East are the second highest in the history of observations, and in the south of the Far East broke the record set in October 2018.

At the same time, the average temperature in the European part of Russia was approaching normal.

Overall, October 2023 was the second warmest in Russia’s meteorological history since 1891. Only October 2018 was warmer.

According to the Hydrometeorological Center, the average temperature in Moscow in October was plus 5.5 degrees, which is an anomaly of 0.3 degrees. The last time October was recorded with below-normal temperatures was six years ago, in 2017. In October, 126 mm of precipitation fell in Moscow, the eighth result in the history of meteorological observations in the capital since 1891. Precipitation anomaly was 180% of the monthly norm.

October 2023 was also the warmest in the Northern Hemisphere since 1891. According to the Hydrometeorological Center, for the past three years, each subsequent October has become the warmest in the series of classifications.
