The President of the European Parliament (EP) officially signed the draft European Union (EU) budget for 2024 this Wednesday after MEPs and the Council reached an agreement on available funds on Saturday.
This brings the total budget for 2024 to 189.4 billion euros, with obligations and payments set at 142.6 billion euros, representing a global cost of 332 billion euros, the European Parliament said in a statement.
The agreement reached increases the allocations initially proposed by the European Commission by 666.5 million euros, namely in the form of funds for “critical programs and policies, taking into account the consequences of the war in Ukraine.”
Funds allocated to strengthen the transition to a green economy have also been increased.
Humanitarian aid, Neighborhood Policy, Global Europe, Science and Technology (Horizon Europe) and young farmers are also increasing funding.
