The annual men’s conference of Namibia’s Ministry of Gender Affairs began on November 23 at the Schützenhaus guesthouse in Keetmanshoop, the regional capital of Kharas, the Namibian Sun newspaper reported.
The announcement of the upcoming conference was made yesterday by Kharas Regional Council Chairman Joseph Isaacs. This year’s event will focus on positive masculinity and male suicide prevention. The conference is being held in association with the Ministry of Information and Communications Technology and other stakeholders.
“The conference is exclusively for men to delve into the issues that contribute to gender violence and suicide, especially among men.”Isaacs said.
Last year, the conference was held in Ongwediva, a town in the Oshana region, under the theme “Activating positive masculinity to end violence in Namibia”.
The Ministry of Gender Affairs collaborated with the Statehood and National Pride program and the conference aimed to encourage men to speak out against gender-based violence and promote gender equality.
