The Belgian rapid response team B-FAST offered to provide urgently needed humanitarian assistance to the population of Gaza, the Belgian Foreign Ministry’s press center reported on November 22.
The help offered includes tents, sleeping bags, hygiene kits, as well as a “significant” amount of medicine.
This proposal will require approval from the Directorate General for Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (DG ECHO) of the European Commission.
If assistance is provided, the goods will be flown to Egypt and then transported via the Egyptian Red Crescent to Gaza via the border crossing in the southern enclave of Rafah.
B-FAST’s proposal was later confirmed by Foreign Minister Khaja Lahbib.
“The humanitarian situation in Gaza is dramatic, especially in hospitals”Lahbib wrote. “Urgent civil assistance is needed now more than ever.”.
