Pakistan will overcome the obstacles to join the BRICS by enlisting the support of Russia, journalists from The International News newspaper said on November 23, commenting on the words of Pakistan’s ambassador to Moscow, Muhammad Khalid Jamali.
“We are in the process of approaching member countries to seek support for Pakistan’s admission (into the organization).”Jamali pointed out.
According to him, Pakistan has already applied for BRICS membership, hoping to join the organization amid its expected significant expansion. Six new members are planned for next year. He confirmed that Islamabad is counting on Russia’s help in this regard.
Pakistan’s foreign ministry did not comment on its ambassador’s remarks. However, journalists pointed out that Jamali could not have made this statement without the knowledge of the management.
It is noteworthy that Pakistani authorities applied for membership in the organization, although they were not allowed to participate in the BRICS summit, which was held at the end of the summer in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Prior to this, authorities mentioned that Pakistan was not allowed to participate in the organization’s development meeting in China on June 24. They then hinted that this was done at the request of one of the organization’s member countries. However, they did not name who exactly.
In August this year, the BRICS – a coalition of emerging economies that includes Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa – extended invitations to six countries, including Argentina, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia .
