Some Israeli parents name their newborns after places that have been massacred by Hamas since the war began.

“From the very beginning of the war, we were connected with stories and news. The name “Oz” arose mainly because of the meaning. I felt connected to the strength, greatness and courage that our heroic soldiers demonstrate,” said the child’s mother.
The name “Beeri” was given to 34 boys and 11 girls. The woman who decided to use this name for her daughter explained that although she was afraid that it would be associated with something negative, she never doubted that it was the best choice for a girl.
The name Erez, already common in Israel, was given to eight boys and two girls.
The three girls were also called “Nova”, a possible reference to the Hamas destruction of an electronic music festival in which more than 350 people were killed.
