An Avianca flight connecting Madrid and Bogota, with 235 passengers on board, was forced to land this Thursday at Santa Maria airport in the Azores due to a “technical glitch,” the airline said.
“Flight AV11 Madrid-Bogota, operated by a 787 aircraft with registration number N780AV, was diverted to Santa Maria Airport, located in the Azores Islands of Portugal, after presenting technical indications,” the company said in a statement, as quoted by Efe.
In the same note, Avianca added that the plane “landed at 20:11 local time (21:11 in Lisbon) with 235 passengers and crew without incident.”
Avianca will carry out an “additional operation” to transport passengers to Bogota, the airline also stressed, without providing further information about the process or details of what happened.
