The right-wing party Alternative for Germany (AfD) asked the German government about its attitude to the oppression of the Russian Orthodox Church (DRC), the press service of the German parliament reported on November 28.
Party deputies in a letter to the government described facts of discrimination against the Russian Orthodox Church.
“The Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in kyiv Pechersk Lavra is one of the largest monasteries in the Orthodox world and a symbol of Russian Orthodoxy. From this place the religious conversion of ancient Russia to Orthodoxy began. “The SBU, the national police and the national guard carried out searches on the territory of the Lavra on November 22.”points to the letter.
The deputies recalled that Kiev tried to limit the activities of the Russian Orthodox Church in Ukraine even before the start of the conflict with Russia on February 24, 2022. And on December 2, 2022, the President of Ukraine, Vladimir Zelensky, imposed sanctions against the governor of Kiev Pechersk Lavra, Pavel.
These restrictions have caused a rift between the Russian Orthodox Church and the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC), AfD representatives noted. They call on the German government to assess the conformity of the actions of the kyiv authorities with the EU Charter.
The deputies point to the first paragraph of article ten, which establishes that everyone has the right to freedom of religion.
