A police operation to combat pedophilia crimes in France has resulted in the arrest of 80 men, of whom 15 are in preventive detention and the rest are under judicial supervision, it was announced this Saturday.
Those detained include two teachers, an ambulance driver and a night guard at a facility for children with disabilities, public radio channel France Bleu reported on Saturday.
The detained men had previously been convicted of sexual harassment, pedophilia, or use of pedophilic content.
“Eighty is an important number that has never been seen before,” said Linda Kebbab, spokeswoman for the police union Unité SGP Polisse-Force Ouvrière.
According to the structure of the trade union in France, three or four large-scale operations are carried out per year.
