PSD forces parliamentary hearings of the Minister of Labor on the Santa Casa Global issue

This Wednesday, the PSD submitted a request to make the hearing of the Minister of Labor in Parliament mandatory on the situation with Santa Casa Global, after the PS proposed to postpone the vote on the first request of the Social Democrats.

“Delaying this decision at a time when the public is aware of the speed of dissolution of the Assembly of the Republic may make the proposed hearings impossible,” explains the SDP in a potential request sent this Wednesday to the Parliamentary Labor Committee. Social welfare and inclusion.

According to the Social Democrats, the PS asked the commission this Wednesday to postpone the usual request submitted by the PSD on Monday and demanding the hearing of Minister Ana Mendes Godinho and former Ombudsman of the Santa Casa da Misericordia de Lisboa (SCML) Edmundo. Martinho.

Considering it “extremely important to clarify and obtain information about the position of an institution of such importance in society,” the PSD requested a mandatory hearing of Minister Ana Mendes Godinho.

Since he cannot use the capacity figure in relation to Edmundo Martinho – since he is no longer in office – the discussion and vote on hearing the former SCML provider will take place at the next meeting of the Working Committee.

The basis for the requests for a hearing is a report from the Público newspaper on Monday, according to which Minister Ana Mendes Godinho was informed of the amounts needed to internationalize the social games Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa (SCML).

In response to Lusa on the same day, the Ministry of Labor confirmed that “there was no authorization for specific investments in Brazil” and that “all investments related to internationalization were and have always been subject to the ministerial order of June 9, 2020. which directly requires compliance with a number of conditions.”

At the end of September, when she was heard in Parliament about SCML’s financial situation, Minister Ana Mendes Godinho assured MPs that she had only authorized the creation of Santa Casa Global and had not approved subsequent investments.

SDP believes that, given Monday’s news, “at stake are conflicting information and statements regarding the knowledge and approval of the trustee regarding the investment in Santa Casa Global, which worsens the determination of responsibility for the current financial situation in which it is encountered.” SKML”.

In its response to Lusa, the Ministry of Labor said that the audit requested by Minister Ana Méndez Godinho on June 12, 2023 “is ongoing and will determine whether the order was implemented, as well as the legality of the company’s activities, the internationalization of the game by Santa Casa Global and the actions of the former provider SCML.” .

He also recalled that the Directorate General of Investigation and Prosecution (DCIAP) had already launched an investigation following the preliminary report submitted by SCML to the Prosecutor General’s Office (PGR).
