During the week of January 13-20, the number of active drilling rigs in the US decreased by four to 771 units. This is the minimum value since November 4, when 770 drilling rigs were operating.
This week, the total number of oil rigs dropped by 10 to 613. The number of gas rigs increased by six to 156.
In the Permian Basin, the number of operating drilling rigs dropped by two, to 354.
Remember that a sharp decline in the number of drilling rigs began after the fall in oil prices and demand. Before the crash on March 13, 2020, there were 792 drilling rigs operating in the US, of which 683 were oil rigs.
On August 14, 2020, the number of active rigs dropped to a local low of 244 units, after which there was unsteady growth with setbacks.
