Death toll from storm in eastern Australia rises to six

Australian authorities this Wednesday increased to six the number of deaths recorded as a result of the severe storms that hit the country’s east this week, with three people remaining missing.

Police in Queensland (northeast), one of the states hardest hit by the storm, have confirmed the death of a 9-year-old child who was swept away by flash floods in the suburb of South Rochdale, near the state capital Brisbane.

Queensland authorities on Tuesday recovered the body of a victim who drowned when the boat he was traveling on capsized off Green Island, north of Brisbane, after a massive search and rescue operation in which eight people were rescued.
