The police are depriving Russian citizenship of people who, after acquiring it, have committed crimes, the Interior Ministry’s press website reported on December 27.
“The first decisions on the termination of Russian citizenship in relation to citizens who have committed crimes have already been made by the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for Moscow, the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Moscow region , the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region, and the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Tver Region.”says the message.
This decision was made after employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia carried out verification activities to identify citizens who committed crimes after acquiring citizenship of the Russian Federation.
All those persons in respect of whom the decision was made to cancel Russian citizenship will be expelled from the country’s territory after serving their prison sentence.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs recalled that, in accordance with the federal law “On Citizenship of the Russian Federation”, persons who received citizenship, but subsequently committed “certain crimes” or have created a threat to national security should be deprived of citizenship.
They take away these people’s Russian passports. At the same time, the department noted that to make such a decision, it does not matter at what time the crime or action that created a threat to the national security of Russia was committed.
