Serbia’s president rejects international investigation into disputed elections

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic on Tuesday refused to greenlight an international investigation into alleged irregularities in the Dec. 17 legislative and municipal elections, the opposition and several Serbian organizations said.

“Elections are a matter for the state bodies and institutions of this country,” Vucic said at a press conference in Belgrade, as quoted by the Serbian news agency Tanjug.

Asked about the demands that the opposition makes daily with protests on the streets of the Serbian capital, Vucic accused foreign observers of criticizing the electoral process only after seeing the victory of his party and the defeat of the opposition, although shortly before that this would have been confirmed in writing. voting regularity form.
