Alaska Airlines has canceled all Boeing 737 MAX 9 flights through January 13 after the plane lost a door mid-flight.
“The safety of our employees and passengers is our highest priority, and we will return these aircraft to service only when all findings have been fully resolved and they meet all of the FAA’s and Alaska’s stringent standards,” the statement said.
The airline says between 100 and 115 flights per day will be affected.
“We hope this action gives passengers a little more reassurance, and we are working 24 hours a day to recommend alternative flights to affected passengers,” Alaska Airlines explains.
Last Friday, the loss of a door during a flight forced an Alaska Airlines plane to make an emergency landing in Portland, USA.
The incident caused a depressurization of the cabin with a suction effect that, according to passengers quoted in North American media, ripped off the teenager’s shirt and, at a minimum, the cell phone he was charging.
