Heavy snow and freezing rain across Germany led to the cancellation of hundreds of flights and trains this Wednesday, road accidents and school closures.
More than 500 flights were canceled at Frankfurt Airport, Germany’s largest, and more than 250 arrivals and departures were canceled at Munich Airport.
Dusseldorf and Cologne-Bonn airports were also hit by flight delays and cancellations.
In western Germany, Saarbrücken Airport will be closed this Wednesday.
German national rail operator Deutsche Bahn has canceled several intercity services and announced that the maximum speed of its high-speed train (ICE) will be limited to 200 kilometers per hour due to extreme weather conditions.
Freezing rain in western and southern Germany also led to numerous accidents on icy roads early Wednesday morning.
As a precautionary measure, many schools and kindergartens in the country are closed, and some companies have allowed their employees to work from home.
