US believes Germany could give permission to send Leopard tanks to Ukraine soon

German Defense Minister Boris Pistoriorius and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg meet today in a meeting from which a statement on the matter is expected.

The United States is of the opinion that Germany could give permission in the next few hours or days to third countries to deliver German-made Leopard tanks to the Ukrainian army. In this sense, Western countries are waiting for what will happen today in the scheduled meeting between German Defense Minister Boris Pistoriorius and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.

The spokesman for the US State Department, Ned Price, assured at a press conference that “Germany is a reliable ally on this front”, thus defending Germany’s commitment to support Ukraine against the Russian invasion.

In reference to the refusal that the German country has given so far to hand over its Leopard tanks, Price has assured that “it is possible” that “more” will be heard from the Germans in the next hours or days.

Likewise, the US spokesman added that, at the start of the Russian invasion in February 2022, many people would not have believed all the contribution he has made so far. He has listed some of the systems he has provided to date; among others, the IRIS-T anti-missile system, the MLRS rocket launch systems and the Patriot missile battery.

In the same way, he has pointed out that “Ukraine already has tanks”, and he wanted to remember that the United States has helped his army to obtain them. “We’ve worked with them to get Russian and Soviet-made tanks that they’re already trained on, they know how to use, they can use it right away, they can repair it, they can keep it operational, and most importantly, they can be effective with it,” Price said. .

“We will continue to do our part to provide Ukraine with what it needs,” said the State Department spokesman, recalling that it has given weapons to the Ukrainian Army up to 30 times, all worth billions of dollars.

Meeting between Germany and NATO

A meeting between German Defense Minister Boris Pistoriorius and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg is scheduled for today. Some countries like Poland and Finland are waiting for what comes out of this meeting. Both countries had already shown their willingness to deliver Leopard tanks to the Ukrainian army.

In fact, the Polish Prime Minister, Mateusz Morawiecki, has stated that he will soon ask Berlin for formal authorization to send the tanks and has assured that, if he does not obtain the go-ahead, he will seek “an international coalition of countries with which to agree on the supply “.
