The mayor of Porto said this Monday that all the security measures necessary for the operation of the Stop shopping center have been completed and that the only situation that needs to be resolved is related to the “closed security door”.
Responding to a question from Socialist councilor Rosario Gamboa about the Stop shopping center during an executive meeting, Mayor Rui Moreira said he had a meeting with the owners and the new management of the condominium.
According to Rui Moreira, the intervention measures required in the report of the National Emergency Management and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC) “have been resolved” and “the only problem that remains unresolved is the security door that was closed”, presumably by the owner of the land . behind the stop.
“We’re trying to understand how the driveway door works,” he said, noting that if these problems are resolved, “the Stop could be used.”
Regarding the Pires de Lima school, a solution presented by the municipality to the musicians as an alternative to Stop, Rui Moreira clarified that the project is under development and showed the council members a model of the building.
Urbanism council member Pedro Bagaña also explained that there are no updated drawings for the school and that a “full building survey” needs to be carried out, with the municipality currently finalizing the hiring of an acoustics and public space consultant. rehearsal.
Regarding the pathologies identified in the building, Pedro Bagaña specified that the most obvious ones, such as rain penetration and infrastructure destruction, have been “eliminated.”
According to the adviser, the school comprises five towers and a central building, three of which are used for recording facilities.
The central space, which will be built in the second phase of the project, will also include recording studios and storage areas.
Pedro Baganha said the project will be implemented “building by building” as it is “a completely atypical project.”
“We’ve never done anything like this, we need to get started,” he said, refusing to commit to a deadline but saying he expected musicians to be able to occupy the first towers by the end of the year.
When asked by BE council member who would manage the project that would be developed at the school, Rui Moreira explained that the municipality intended to hand over the management to the Associação dos Amigos do Coliseu, but this “could be contested.”
“We are going to announce a competition,” he noted, noting, however, that the municipality will have to guarantee issues such as cleaning, hygiene and safety, especially since this premises will also house Norte Vida and the periodicals of the Municipal Library, as well as restoration work.
The stop, where most of the rehearsal rooms and studios are located, closed most of its facilities on July 18, leaving nearly 500 artists and shop owners with nowhere to go, but reopened on Aug. 4 with a fire truck at the ready. , door.
The stop will continue to operate indefinitely following a precautionary measure taken by the owners following the city council’s decision to close the building, Porto Mayor Rui Moreira confirmed on September 22.
