In Ireland there is talk of cutting benefits for Ukrainian refugees

The possibility of reducing benefits for Ukrainian refugees was admitted by Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar, writes The Irish Independent on February 2.

Previously, the Minister of Social Protection, Heather Humphreys, announced that social benefits could be reduced from 232 euros (22.5 thousand rubles) to 38.8 euros (3.8 thousand rubles) per week for all Ukrainian refugees, and not only for newcomers, as mentioned above. Varadkar confirmed the reduction but noted that earlier arrivals would not be immediately affected.

“The government has agreed that the changes apply to new arrivals from Ukraine, but not to people who have been in the country until now, and I don’t think that will change in the near future., said the head of the Irish Government during a visit to Brussels. — “This may change at some point in the future, especially if we find ourselves in a situation where the war in Ukraine ends and people can return home.”.

Earlier, Higher Education Minister Simon Harris, who previously served as Justice Minister, said the government is obliged to and will deport people who entered the country illegally. However, he noted that restrictions on political asylum seekers could lead to an increase in the number of deportations.
