Court rejects PGR Mozambique’s decision to close pigeon pea case

The Nacala Porto court has decided “not to follow” the decisions of Mozambique’s Prosecutor General’s Office (PGR), which ordered the closure of the case regarding the dispute over the export of pigeon peas to India between RGL and the ETG conglomerate.

In an order dated January 15, signed by the Deputy Prosecutor General of the Specialized Criminal Department, Amabélia Chukela, the body decided to “annul the decisions of the prosecutor’s office” of Nacala Porto in the preliminary investigation of the case. process.

The dispute, in which PGR considered the bail amount set by local prosecutors to be “absurd and astronomical,” has been raging between the two groups for several months and has seen the export of pigeon peas and other agricultural products from this northern port to India.
