Viseu’s Public Security Police (PSP) confiscated fireworks worth more than 700 euros from a shop next to the city’s high school, police announced on Thursday.
“After an incident at a school in this city, [a PSP] carried out an inspection of a trading company in the municipality of Viseu, where it revealed administrative offenses and seized pyrotechnic products, ”says a police report sent this Thursday to the Luz agency.
The operation was initiated following a “request for assistance from security agents of the school’s Safe School program, given that students were using Carnival crackers and firecrackers,” he said in statements to Lusa, a source at Lusa.PSP.
During the operation, which involved the weapons and explosives unit of the PSP in Viseu, the police seized “pyrotechnic materials of categories F1 and F2, considered less dangerous” according to the pyrotechnic classification.
Among the materials seized were “91 boxes with 4,226 firecrackers; 51 boxes with 306 carousels; 68 boxes with 1300 firecrackers and 26 conical fountains.
Also seized, according to the same statement, “16 boxes with a total of 680 16 cm stars. [centímetros] and 16 more boxes with 250 28cm stars.”
“The seized items were intended for sale to the public for a total amount of 722.50 euros,” the PSP said, citing the Lusa agency, that “a process was initiated to make a decision and apply a fine” to the commercial establishment. .
The process is under briefing, the same PSP source indicated.
The police call on “the public in general and the school community in particular to respect and comply with safety standards and legal formalities when buying and selling fireworks.”
