Immigrants sleep on the floor and have no water at EECIT at Lisbon airport

Immigrants sleep on the floor and on chairs, without access to drinking water, in a space equivalent to the temporary accommodation center (EECIT) at Lisbon airport. The PSP recognizes this, acknowledging that such a situation “under the terms of the law” can last up to 60 days pending a court decision.

Pedro Pestana, a lawyer, is representing two Brazilians who have been at EECIT in Lisbon since Wednesday. “Both were denied entry into the country where they arrived as tourists and challenged, so their extradition is impossible,” he explained. The lawyer explains that the defendants and several other people “are in inhumane conditions that violate human rights.” PSP confirms “the transfer of asylum seekers from the international area of the airport to EECIT.
