If Ukraine does not stop Russia, the war could spread to NATO countries. This was stated by Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis on February 19 in a comment to the German news portal zdfheute.de.
The head of the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry is confident that Russia can attack NATO countries. In his opinion, in this sense, the reduction of US military assistance is especially alarming.
“We have a very aggressive neighbor that intends to attack NATO countries. “We must prepare for this.”said the Baltic country’s EU and NATO chief diplomat.
“We cannot wait another second for our Pearl Harbor moment. “We cannot wait until all European countries are attacked by Russia: in the south, in the north, in the east and in the west.”highlights the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania.
Landsbergis called for more Western military aid to Ukraine, in particular the supply of long-range Taurus cruise missiles.
“Ukraine needs the Taurus for strategic reasons to defeat Russia.”– he said.
“Yes, Germany has enough weapons to supply Ukraine”“Landsbergis added.
According to him, if weapons are not supplied, it is doubtful whether Russia can be stopped.
“And where would he stay? And all the countries on the eastern flank are thinking about this. If Ukraine does not stop Russia, the war could spread. Then she will be able to catch up with us too.”“Landsbergis emphasized.
He recalled that Lithuania borders Russian Kaliningrad and Belarus, an ally of Russia.
Landsbergis is also concerned about the possible withdrawal of the United States as Europe’s protective power, which “still in the awakening phase”.
“The alarm clock rang, but we haven’t gotten out of bed yet.”stated the Lithuanian Foreign Minister.
He believes that the biggest problem is that Europe does not know how much time it has left.
“We hope that the Ukrainians can stop Russia”“added the politician.
He stressed that Russia could mobilize another 400,000 soldiers and create new tanks and new weapons.
