Polish farmers announced this Friday that they will block an important border post with Germany for 24 hours starting Sunday, in protest against European rules and the import of products that they believe violate community standards.
“The Słubice border post on the A2 motorway (which connects Warsaw with Berlin) will be blocked from 13:00 Sunday (12:00 in Lisbon) until 13:00 Monday,” Dariusz Wrobel, one of the protest organizers, told the agency. French news AFP.
“We protest against the European Green Deal, which is unacceptable in its current form, as well as against the import of agri-food products that do not meet European standards, coming from countries outside the European Union (EU),” he added, refusing to mention Ukraine specifically. the first country to become the target of protests.
Vrubel added that this was a warning protest.
“We will wait for the results [do protesto] and we are ready to start moving at a much higher level,” he said.
Polish farmers initially announced a 25-day blockade, but after negotiations with the Slubice city council and local businesses they decided to limit the scale of the protests.
Farmer mobilizations have been taking place in Poland for several weeks now, blocking roads throughout the country and at border posts with Ukraine.
Poland has been one of the biggest supporters of its neighbor Ukraine since the Russian military invasion began in February 2022, but relations have deteriorated in recent months due to trade disputes, particularly Brussels’ border reopening. products that, according to Polish farmers, do not meet EU standards.
