European Council President Charles Michel this Friday ironically congratulated Russian President Vladimir Putin on his “stunning victory” in the Russian elections, which begin this Friday, and declared that “there is neither opposition” nor “freedom.”
“I would like to congratulate Vladimir Putin on his convincing victory in the elections, which begin today. [esta sexta-feira]. No opposition, no freedom, no choice,” said Charles Michel in a post on the social network X (formerly Twitter).
Between this Friday and Sunday, Russia will hold a presidential election in which Vladimir Putin is expected to be re-elected to a fifth presidential term until 2030, given the lack of an independent opposition, information control and the specter of manipulation.
