The director of the National Cancer Program believes this Wednesday that the European data, which highlights Portugal’s positive results in oncology, reinforces the SNS as “one of the great achievements” of democracy and does credit to the country.
José Dinis commented to Lusa on Wednesday’s 2023 National Cancer Profile data from the European Cancer Inequality Registry, showing that Portugal has one of the lowest per capita cancer treatment costs in the European Union. despite survival rates for the most common cancers being higher than the EU average.
An analysis of the European Cancer Inequality Registry for Portugal attributes some of the inconsistencies to “a consolidated network of referral centers and the availability of free medicines and treatments”.
