WHO says Gaza’s largest hospital has turned into a cemetery

The World Health Organization (WHO) said this Friday that Al-Shifa Hospital – the largest medical complex in the Gaza Strip – was completely destroyed and that the mission found that bodies were buried in open areas inside the facilities.

WHO Surgeon General Thanos Gargavanis told a videoconference from the Gaza Strip and reporters present in Geneva, Switzerland, that a few days ago he led a team that visited al-Shifa in the north of the enclave and observed the destruction firsthand. Complete infrastructure and equipment.

“Everything was destroyed and burned: oxygen networks, CT scanners, laboratories and surgical equipment such as ventilators and anesthesia machines,” he said.
