They bought a new home in 2019 but were left empty-handed. A British couple found historic coins hidden under their kitchen floor. According to the police, they received more than seventy thousand euros from the sale of some items at the auction. Mirror.
Becky and Robert Fuchs’ discovery came when the couple began work on removing the kitchen floor of the 17th-century country house they had bought. Fuchs found a clay bowl containing 1,209 gold and silver coins that were over 400 years old. The cup contained copies of King James I of England and King Charles I of England.
“One night I was with the kids and my husband was digging with a pickaxe when he called me and said they had found something. He put all the coins in a bucket and brought them. If we didn’t lower the floor, they would still be hidden there,” explained Beck Fuchs.
The coins must have been hidden by the owner of the house during the English Civil War, between 1642 and 1644.
The 1635 Gold Crown of King Charles I was the coin that sold for the most money, almost six thousand euros. In second place is a silver coin of Charles I, dated 1641-1643, which sold for more than three thousand seven hundred euros, and a gold laurel coin of James I, dated 1621-1623, for more than 3,000 thousand euros.
“The auction was brilliant, very emotional and a bit wild. We are very pleased with the result,” said Becky.
The couple will spend part of the money collected on home renovations.
