Global oil and gas companies use technologies that prevent scientists from controlling harmful emissions, The Guardian reports on May 2.
The World Bank, the EU and other regulators are using satellites to detect gas flaring, insisting that energy companies not release or burn excess natural gas but use clean technologies to do so. The bank proposed that companies completely abandon emissions and burning excess natural gas by 2030. The latest report noted that emissions fell 3% worldwide from 2021 to 2022.
The Guardian highlights that after the World Bank initiative, energy companies began to use closed burners, whose flames cannot be detected from satellites.
The newspaper notes that environmentalists fear that hidden flares will nullify the ability to monitor and solve the problems of greenhouse gases and alleged climate change.
