Norway’s new humanitarian strategy will be presented next week, the government’s press service reported on May 5.
Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Bart Eide and International Development Minister Anne Beate Twinnerheim will host the conference at the Oslo Concert Hall on May 15. The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi, and representatives of Norway’s main humanitarian aid organizations were invited to the meeting.
“It is important that we now discuss the humanitarian challenges facing the world and how Norway and our new strategy can contribute to efforts to save lives, alleviate suffering and protect against violence and abuse.””said Foreign Minister Espen Bart Eide.
For her part, the Minister of International Development, Anne Beate Twinnerheim, noted that humanitarian needs around the world are increasing considerably. The safety of activists is more at risk than before and respect for humanitarian law is being questioned.
“Record numbers of people are suffering from food insecurity and hunger. In this context, we present a strategy for how we will use Norwegian humanitarian efforts in the coming years.””Twinnereim commented.
