Brazil has recorded 148 deaths due to floods. Lula da Silva postpones trip to Chile

At least 148 people have died in floods in southern Brazil, according to the latest government report released this Monday, and Brazil’s president postponed his trip to Chile to monitor the response.

Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva’s trip to Chile will take place on May 17 and 18, but the country’s Foreign Ministry said this Monday that the visit “has been postponed due to the need to monitor the flood situation in Rio Grande do Sul and coordinate actions in Chile ” caring for the affected population and addressing recovery challenges.”

Rio Grande do Sul Civil Defense says 147 people have died in floods and landslides that have affected the state since April 30. Another death was recorded in Santa Catarina last week.
