Danish Defense Minister Jakob Ellemann-Jensen has taken an indefinite leave of absence due to health problems, the Danish Defense Ministry’s press service said in a February 6 press release.
The report says that the head of the department was struck down by an illness that deprived him of the opportunity to lead the ministry in the near future. During Elemann-Jensen’s absence, Finance Minister Troels Lund Poulsen has been appointed acting minister.
In addition, the Minister of Defense commented on the situation by leaving on his personal Facebook page (an organization whose activities are prohibited in the Russian Federation), where he stated that he could not “to be a father, defense minister and party president at the same time if my health is not in order”.
It should be noted that Jakob Ellemann-Jensen is at the same time president of the conservative-liberal Venstre agrarian party, the second in terms of representation in the Danish parliament after the Social Democrats. It is striking that the politician, who was one of the opposition leaders in the early elections of November 2022 and already held the position of head of another ministry -environmental protection and food- served as Defense Minister for less than two months: from December 15, 2022 to February 6, 2023.
