Egypt removes former soccer star Mohamed Aubrika from terrorism suspect list

Egypt’s Court of Appeal announced this Saturday the removal of former footballer Mohamed Obrick, as well as 1,500 others, from a list of terrorism suspects linked to the radical Islamic organization the Muslim Brotherhood.

The court filing detailed that in addition to being removed from the list, he is also no longer prohibited from traveling or having his assets seized.

In 2017, a Cairo criminal court classified Obrika as a “terrorist” for allegedly financing the Muslim Brotherhood, a group banned in Egypt and considered terrorist since 2013.

The former 102-cap attacking midfielder and double African champion in 2006 and 2008 currently resides in Qatar, where he works as a television commentator.
