A closed viewing platform was built in the steppe section of the Chernye Zemlya nature reserve in the Yashkul district of the Republic of Kalmykia for guests and to facilitate the service of state environmental inspectors. On February 3, the administration of the reserve published a message about it on its official website.
Now state inspectors can be on duty, watching the reserve’s animals and birds from the viewing platform to the telescope in any weather.
Construction and repair were carried out with subsidies allocated from the federal budget. The roof of the Atsan-Khuduk cordon was repaired, the innovation of which was the erected closed observation deck.
The site will now become a tourist attraction. Through binoculars you can admire the endless Kalmyk steppes, see saigas, steppe eagles, demoiselle cranes. You can also see the wolf, whose number of packs has grown a lot lately.
The State Reserve “Chernye Zemli” occupies a total area of 121900 hectares, the territory of 91170 hectares is protected. The reserve has had official UNESCO biosphere status since the winter of 1993.
The uniqueness of the territory of the reserve is that two different habitats coexist here: the Kalmyk steppes and the wetlands of Lake Manych-Gudilo.
