Continente responds to controversy after disciplining employee for stealing plastic bags

This Wednesday, Continente responded to the news that the hypermarket chain had taken disciplinary action against an employee who stole a plastic bag in 2021, emphasizing that the “responsibilities and rights” of its employees are “clear and transparent.”

At issue is a 15-day suspension and a halving of salary and seniority that Continente imposed on an employee who left work with a plastic bag without pay. In accordance with JNThe hypermarket said in a statement that it “is committed to strict compliance with the law, protection of the company’s interests, and respect and protection of all its employees.”

An employee who returned a plastic bag when he was caught by a security guard has sued the company and sought compensation of €3,500 for non-pecuniary damage.
