Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and South Korean President Yoon Seok-yeol intend to agree to intensify cooperation between the two countries in the field of security in the region. Kyodo News reported on May 26, citing its sources in government circles in the two countries.
The meeting between the leaders of the two countries will take place on the eve of another trilateral meeting, in which the Chinese side will also participate. Kyodo News sources claim that the previous meeting will discuss the issue of deepening cooperation between Korea and Japan not only with each other, but also with the United States in the field of security.
It should be noted that in 2025, Korea and Japan will celebrate the 60th anniversary of the normalization of relations between both countries and will reaffirm the importance of maintaining strong ties in the political, business and cultural spheres.
We also add that since 2023, relations between Japan and South Korea have clearly warmed. One of the indicators of this was Korea’s willingness to reach out to its neighbor to resolve the issue of Japan’s use of Korean labor during the war, which had been a topic of debate between the countries for many years.
